Is the seam sealer good in water or oil? public opinions are divergent. At present, there are many kinds of tile sealants on the market, and the product names of each manufacturer are different, which is easy to mislead consumers, and even illegal vendors pass off inferior products as high-quality ones, confusing the product market to a certain extent.
Now, two-component sewing agents are popular in the market. There is a big mistake here, and even some sewing masters do not know it. Water based seam sealants do not contain water, nor are the materials in them water-based, but they are water-soluble and can be dispersed in water. The material of the seam sealer itself is oily. Through the modification and improvement of epoxy resin and curing agent, they can be soluble in water. Next, let's look at the difference between oily and water-based two-component seam sealants.
01 Raw material composition
Waterborne seam sealer: it is mainly made of epoxy resin, with water molecule as the dispersion medium, and can be dispersed by water before curing. It does not contain benzene, low aromatic hydrocarbons and other organic solvents.
Oily seam sealer: mainly made of epoxy resin, the grease forms a film on the surface to protect the internal materials from decomposition, and has stronger oil stain resistance. But in order to stabilize the quality, many chemical materials are added.
02 Environmental performance
Waterborne seam sealer: a natural material that can dissolve in water, free of harmful substances, clean and environmentally friendly, and suitable for spaces with high environmental requirements, such as house decoration where there are pregnant children and the elderly at home.
Oily cosmetic agent: insoluble in water, with many chemicals. Due to the influence of ingredients, its environmental protection is not as good as that of water-based suture agent, and it will smell of materials.
The raw materials used in oil-based seam sealants are also environmentally friendly, but compared with oil-based seam sealants, water-based ones will be more environmentally friendly.
03 Different cleaning difficulties
Water based seam sealer: It is accidentally stuck on the hand and can be washed off without curing with clear water. After curing, it must be washed off with alcohol, vinegar and detergent.
Oily cosmetology agent: alcohol and vinegar are required no matter whether the cosmetology agent is solidified or not. It is difficult to clean and will leave traces.
04 Color brightness
In terms of color brightness, the oil based sealant has higher brightness, which is suitable for polished tiles, glazed tiles and other tiles, while the water based sealant has lighter brightness, which is more suitable for matt tiles and antique tiles.
05 Performance
In fact, the biggest difference between water-based and oil-based seam sealants is in performance. The performance of water-based seam sealants in hardness, adhesion, yellowing resistance and other aspects is higher than that of oil-based seam sealants. The national standard of hardness is ≥ 55HD, while the hardness of zhuli water based joint sealant can reach 75HD, while that of oil based joint sealant is about 70HD. In terms of bonding force, the national requirement is ≥ 5.5MPA, and the water based tile sealant can reach 13Mpa, while the oily one is 9Mpa. The yellowing resistance of water-based joint sealant is also better than that of oil-based joint sealant. The national standard is ≤ 6 △ E, while the yellowing resistance of Zhuanli water-based joint sealant is 2.16 △ E, while the yellowing resistance of oil based joint sealant is about 3.39 △ E.
If you attach importance to product performance and environmental protection, it is recommended to choose water-based seam sealants, such as Zhuanli's A8 epoxy colored sand and water porcelain.
